"When eighteen year old Lucy Davenport's father gives her to Holman Carpenter in exchange for a mysterious favor, her life is changed forever. Lucy's initial challenge is to adjust to a family of thirteen children while finding a way to get to her mother's people in Cherokee. Jake, the peddler, offers her escape, but Lucy soon learns for every thing there is a price. Is she willing to pay it or will she do as her father wished and become Holman's bride."
