By all rights he should be dead but there's no quit in Tell Sackett.
He pulls himself out of the river and finds a hiding place to try and recover. While undercover he hears two men that are searching for him with orders to make sure that he's dead.
With no weapons or supplies Tell has to make it back to Ange and his wagon. With his fear for her keeping him going, Tell struggles back to where he left the wagon only to discover it gone and all signs that it had been there covered over.
Upon further search of the area he finds the burned remains of his wagon and supplies and the murdered body of his beloved Ange. Someone was obviously trying to cover up what had happened but they didn't count on Tell Sackett surviving the attack.
With the help of some Apache indians, Tell recovers form his injuries and begins searching for his wife's killer. When he starts asking around he finds himself being hunted by the Lazy A Cattle Co. with orders that he be killed on sight.
Not knowing why he's being hunted, Tell has to survive on his own while finding out what happened.
Word begins to spread that there is a Sackett being hunted up in the Mongollon and other members of the Sackett family begin making their way to help.
As Tell begins sharing his side of the story, honest men from the Lazy A begin to quit and ride off only to be replaced by hired guns and outlaws all promised a big payout when Tell is killed.
Van Allen , the co-owner of the Lazy A , had seen Tell and Ange in town and followed them. Allen waited for an opportunity when Ange was alone and tried to impress her into leaving Tell and going with him. When she refused, there was a struggle and Allen overpowered her and killed her. When he realized what he had done, he shot Tell off the mountain and began to cover his tracks thinking no one would ever miss them.
As Tell is finally pinned down with no chance of escape, the other members of the Sackett family begin showing up and begin fighting and killing their way thru to Tell.
In a grand shoot out , Tell finally meets the man that killed his wife and serves him with western justice!
Best part of story, including ending:
I hated the fact that Ange was killed but that was the driving force behind the story.
Best scene in story:
When Allen finally sees Tell face to face, he realizes that he has met his match and that this man he has disregarded and hunted was now about to take his life!
Opinion about the main character:
The fact that the only way to stop Tell Sackett is to kill him. I admire the fact that there is no "quit" in him.
