Hidden Star - Stars of Mithra 1 Book Summary and Study Guide

Detailed plot synopsis reviews of Hidden Star - Stars of Mithra 1

Private investigator Cade Parris has to find out who Bailey is running away from and why she has one of the Stars of Mithra hidden in her bag. When an extraordinarily beautiful girl walks into his office one rainy afternoon, private investigator Cade Parris thinks that his dreams have finally come true. It is love at first sight for the struggling private investigator who could have chosen to roll in family money if he wanted to. The girl tells him that she woke up in a hotel room that morning, without a clue as to who she is. Since she has a note addressed to Bailey from M.J. in her pocket, Cade assumes that her name is Bailey. Bailey also has close to a million dollars of cash in her bag and one of the Stars of Mithra - three diamonds which once had belonged in the hands of a God - and when placed together in a triangle, grants the person immortality.

Cade takes her home and begins his investigation into her past. He determines that she has no criminal record with the help of his friends in law enforcement. Bailey's exceptional knowledge of gems, stones and jewellery leads Cade to conclude that she is an expert in that field. Bailey has vague nightmare of someone coming to kill her in the dark and the initials 'T.S' on a ring on the hands of the killer. She also remembers seeing two people fighting though she does not remember who they were. In another dream, she remembers talking with two women, who are obviously her close friends.

Bailey is also immensely attracted to Cade though they are both troubled by the thought that there might be someone else waiting for her somewhere. They both decide to take their relationship to the next level.

With the help of a police artist, they manage to come up the sketches of her two friends - Grace and M.J. - and the man she believes to be the killer. Cade finds out that there is a jewellery outlet run by brothers Timothy and Thomas Salvini in the area. When Cade takes her there, Bailey starts remembering that she used to work there. Her mother married the elder Salvini after Bailey's father died and Timothy and Thomas were her step-brothers. Bailey continued to work there as a gemologist after her mother and step-father died though her step-brothers resented her. She then remembers that the Smithsonian museum had asked her to appraise the value of the three Stars of Mithra. She had overheard her brothers planning to run away with the three diamonds and one of them killed the other. The killer had seen her running away from the site of the murder and knows that she has the stones.

Bailey remembers that she had mailed one of the stones to her friend M.J. and the other to her friend Grace for safe-keeping. Bailey goes to M.J's house to find her, but she is missing. When Cade and Bailey return home, Timothy Salvini - the remaining brother - is waiting for them with a knife. Cade kills Timothy in self-defence in the fight that follows. Though Bailey and Cade feels that things have somehow become all right, the mastermind of the plot who had the Salvini brothers plan the theft is still at large.
Best part of story, including ending: It was a light romance with just the right amount of suspense and mystery to make it an lovely read. The heroine is shy and demure as they come while the hero is all macho and arrogant, waiting for a chance to save the damsel in distress!

Best scene in story: I loved the scene where Cade takes Bailey dancing. Though she is initially shy on the dance floor, she soon starts enjoying herself. When the DJ starts playing a slow song, Cade starts to put the moves on her and they are both hit by the strong physical attraction between them. Sizzling!

Opinion about the main character: Bailey is shy and naive, but has a strong sense of right and wrong. She puts her own life at risk to save the valuable Stars of Mithra from falling into the wrong hands.
