| Plot Summary of The Heart of Devin MacKade |

"By the age of 20, Devin MacKade knows that he wants 2 things: to be a cop and to marry Cassandra “Cassie” Connor. Years later, he became his hometown's sheriff but he didn't get Cassie for she has married early. However her recent divorce allows him opportunity to court her and show her his true feelings. Working in the bed-and-breakfast inn that his brother owns, Cassie with her two children also lives in the third floor of the inn. He visits them everyday and makes sure that he makes Cassie smile. Her abusive husband has brought enough heartache for her and her children. Devin wants to show Cassie he's way different.
Cassie has been given a second chance by the Rafe MacKade, Devin's brother, when he has hired her to be the B and B manager. After juggling 2 to 3 jobs at a time when she has been still married, it's a nice feeling to have a nice house for her and her children with enough savings for them to live on. She however is wary of Devin. She has a crush on Devin when they have been teenagers. But a reckless decision makes her marry early and she has regretted it when the man she married is a violent man. However her attraction for him still stays true. But because of her two children, she makes their relationship discreet. She can't believe that Devin wants her back after her self-esteem has been battered by her former husband.
But Devin expects more than a casual affair from her. He wants marriage and family. He loves her children although their children are a little bit wary of him. Because of the way her past marriage turns out, she hesitates. Her son even expresses a vocal disapproval of the possible union having been hurt by the way his biological father has treated his mother. Devin is heartbroken that Cassie will choose her children's decision over him without letting them see how he loves them so much. But Devin won't give up.
When Cassie's husband escapes from prison, he goes directly to Cassie wanting to destroy the inn in order to get revenge at Rafe because Rafe is the one who has sent him into prison. In the inn, he finds Cassie and holds her hostage. Devin has been wounded but he still manages to follow Cassie and her husband. With his other brothers helping him find them, he rushes to Cassie before her husband brings her down with him.
