| Plot Summary of Otherwise Engaged |
"Molly Cassidy settles in Sunrise Key with her hearing impaired son, Zander, to start a new life by turning the old house she has inherited from her late husband into a bed-and- breakfast place to support themselves. While trying to fix the leak in the roof during a storm breakout, she is suddenly faced with town's billionaire Preston Seaholm who is happy to help her with the roof. Preston is instantly attracted to Molly but more than that he wants to buy off her house. Molly laughs off Preston's offer and tells him that she is happy with the house and the town. Preston is impressed with Molly's zeal for life and especially the way she has brought up her son. He can't help but spends time with them. However when a magazine names him Most Eligible Bachelor of the Year, his private life suddenly is exposed for the public and it includes his time spent with Molly and her son. The media people are persistent with him that Zander is also affected by the chaos. So Preston enters into a pretend engagement with Molly to stop the press from intruding too much on Molly's life. As Preston spends more time with them, he can't help but fall in love with Zander. He learns sign language to communicate with him better and he donates music cds to the library for Zander's pleasure. When he finds out that Zander's teacher has been inconsiderate with his special need, he remedies the problem by forcing the teacher to resign. With Molly, he tries to woo her into his bed. However when he learns that Zander's hearing impairment is degenerative, that he will be totally deaf in 10 years, he tries to offer Molly the best medical help even paying for the expenses. Molly refuses him or his other generous offer.
Molly is trying hard to fight off any attraction she has for Preston. However Preston's generosity, kindness, and great sex appeal slowly wears away her defense against him. When they bring their relationship into the next level, they instantly realize that it has been a mistake sleeping with each other. Preston is afraid to put his feelings on the line for fear that it would end the same way as it had with his former wife. Molly on the other hand, can't stay in a relationship where her partner is hiding things from her, keeping his feelings private similar to what she has experienced with her late husband. When the press reports of them getting married in a soonest date, Preston and Molly decides to go through a mock wedding to stop the press intrusion on their life once and for all. Hours before the wedding, Preston realizes that he loves Molly and that he is willing to take the chance of life with her. Molly is thrilled that Preston is being honest with his feelings and that he feels the same way as she feels for him. They decide to get married for real and start the life they dream of.
