Plot Summary of Against the Odds
"Jake Linley has always been waiting and watching on the sidelines for Lydia Craven. He can only see but not touch as she is the beloved daughter of wealthy and legendary Derek Craven. He can't face to tell his feelings to Lydia for fear of rejection as the lady has not even showed the most remote liking for him. When Lydia's marriage proposal is announced, he yearns for just one chance to tell her that he loves her. Can he gather his courage to tell her his feelings before it's too late?
Lydia Craven dreams for a happily-ever-after marriage just like her parents'. But when season after season she can't find that elusive Mr. Right, she decides to settle with a scholar gentleman who matches her intelligence and won't interfere much with her pursuit of knowledge. One thing that troubles her engagement is Jake's presence. She has been attracted to him since the time she saw him four years ago. However one callous remark from Jake dispels her of any notions that Jake might like her. Now Jake is being deliberately provoking, questioning her feelings about her fiancée and impending marriage. Can Lydia realize that her Mr. Right is actually Jake?
