| Plot Summary of Sisters in Arms |
"In July 1987 three young women meet on their first day as army cadets at Sandhurst in southern England. Amanda Hardwick, a former teacher, is very efficient but rather secretive about her family and private life, Edwina Austin, a former art student, is energetic and plain-speaking, and Lizzie Armstrong, who has recently left high school, is gentle, tactful but quietly assertive, and as her mother was in the Wrens, she is no stranger to life in the armed services. All are very different in personality and background, yet become the best of friends at once. When they feel they are being unfairly picked on by Captain Cathy Roberts, their bullying platoon commander ever ready to find fault with them, the bonds become tighter still.
An uncomfortable revelation about the highly secretive Amanda's private life threatens to land her in trouble and drive the friends apart. The others have their personal problems too, especially after they are sent on different assignments and can only keep in touch long-distance. Captain Roberts tries to pick them off one by one, but once they find the skeleton in her cupboard in the shape of some very dubious business dealings, they reunite and plot their own revenge.
