| Plot Summary of Slow Turns The World |
"Torrin is a hunter on a world where a day lasts ninety years. His tribe, the Vasagi, live in a world of perpetual sunset and continuous migration. Events leave Torrin and his young friend Valhad adrift on an iceberg. They are saved by a ship from the theocratic state of Etoradom but find themselves enslaved by their rescuers. The mission of their new master, Lord Vagis, is to gather wealth from slave-excavated mines and fund the mercenary armies that will expand the empire of Etoradom.
Eventually Torrin, now bodyguard to Lord Vagis, travels to the north pole and Etoradom where he witnesses the suppression and power-struggles of the priest state. Valhad becomes a charismatic healer and preacher as the city slips towards revolution. Reluctantly Torrin accepts a mission to infiltrate a disputed city which is emerging from the long night of the world.
He embarks on the long journey, encountering the vivacious Soola. Together they enter the deserted frozen city and then defend the gates against an overwhelming force. Returning to Etoradom Torrin finds Valhad determined to lead his multitude of devotees into the city. Events reach a climax as the future of a world is violently determined and the old theocracy demonstrates an insidious ability to manipulate and cling to power."
