Plot Summary of Fourth Of July
"Detective Linsay Boxer finds herself in the court room but not in her usual capacity. This time, she is on trial. In a split second decision, Linsay fires her weapon in self-defense killing one murder suspect and permanently debilitating the other.

Escaping the onslaught of media, Linsay seeks the solice of her sisters' home in Half Moon Bay until the trial date. It is here, that a string of murders shocks this small town community. Although she is out of her jurisdiction, she and her friends work the cases as usual. Lindsay discovers eery similarities to an old unsolved case, and to the murder case involving the suspects she shot and is soon to be on trial for.

Despite appearing to be upstanding citizens, the murder suspects are involved in some sinister porn. They have been stabbed to death and brutally spanked with a belt as if someone is punishing them. Lindsay is shocked to discover the murderer is someone she has become friends with. "

Tracey Ray, Resident Scholar

"4th of July is a crafty and suspenseful page turner about Lindsay Boxer. She's a Lieutenant for the San Francisco Police Department.
She's with her partner on a stakeout of a serial murderer when they discover the suspects leaving the scene of the crime and pursue them.
They turn out to be kids who shoot her and her partner. She returns lethal force in self defense and is put on trial for using excessive force and crippling another child.

Before her trial she is told to take temporary rest so she stays at her sister's house in the small town of Half Moon Bay. Her sister is away so Lindsay has the run of her house for a few weeks. Within that time Lindsay discovers that there has been random murders in the area. One of the deaths bears a striking resemblance to an unsolved "John Doe" from her past. Lindsay takes it upon herself to investigate despite the fact that she should be worrying about the trial of her life.

Along the way Lindsay meets a lot of the locals, butts heads with the chief of police, and tries to solve the crime without getting killed herself. She is visited by her boyfriend from Homeland Security as well as Claire and Cindy, her friends from the Woman's Murder Club. The club used to contain four women but one was murdered in the last book, 3rd Degree, and this time a new forth joins the club.

Lindsay does her best to try to piece together the truth and keep alive. Her career and her life hang in the balance. Either the trial or the real killer might just get to her first if she isn't careful."
