| Plot Summary of The Light of Eidon |
"Abramm Kalladorne, the fifth son of the king of Kiriath, is too far in the succession line to ever become the king; besides, he is not very interested in the worldly affairs, anyway. At the age of 13 he had chosen to dedicate his life to the God Eidon, and joined the religious order of Mataio. After 8 years of training he is about to take his vows when he learns that sudden and mysterious deaths of his father and older brother had brought him closer to the throne than he ever thought possible.
Abramm is brought to the palace where his brother, the present king, tells him that the Mataio might be behind those two deaths. They are planning to make Abramm king and through him gain control over the kingdom. Abramm refuses to believe it and states once again that he has no intention of ever wearing the crown. His brother lets him go but, still seeing him as a threat, arranges for Abramm to be kidnapped and sold to slavery.
Abramm, who had never shown any skill with a sword, is forced to become a gladiator in a faraway land. The choice he is given is to fight or to die. Abramm chooses life. Not only he manages to survive the brutal training, he becomes the best of the best, gloriously winning one fight after another as the mysterious White Pretender. He is no longer the weakling who was mocked and ridiculed by his younger brother and sought to escape the responsibilities of his royal birth in the monastery; he is a seasoned warrior, more than ready to come and claim his crown. The problem is, he is still a slave.
