| Plot Summary of The Gods of Mars |
"In this sequel to 'A Princess of Mars', Captain John Carter is again transported to Mars, where he is reunited with Tars Tarkas, of the warlike Green Martians, on a pilgrimage to the sacred river Iss. In the Mountains of Otz they encounter Thuvia, a slave of the Holy Therns, cruel guardians of the Valley Dor.
Under cover of a pirate attack Carter escapes alone in an air ship, but is captured by pirates and taken to an underground world and the Temple of Issus. Carter leads a slaves revolt against Issus and escapes again, resuming his search for his missing companions Tars Tarkas and Thuvia."
