Plot Summary of Nelson Mandela
"Nelson Mandela worked to end Africa's apartheid laws. Mandela is a lawyer who became a leader of the African National Congress. Mandela was arrested for his work to end apartheid. He spent twenty-seven years in prison. During that time his wife Winnie and other people in many nations worked to help him win freedom. He became one of the world's most famous prisoners. At last in 1990, President F. W. de Klerk allowed Mandela to be free.

After leaving prison, Mandela worked with President de Klerk to end apartheid. In 1993 both men received the Nobel Peace Prize for their work. After South Africa's first free elections in 1994, Mandela became the country's first black president."
