"British Comedian Tony Hawkes finds himself the victim of a drunken bet. He has agreed to hitchhike around Ireland taking with him a fridge. If he wins the bet, he wins 100 pounds. After talking with his friend he is assured that he need not go through with the bet despite signing an agreement while drunk. Yet he decides to go through with it anyway, just to for the fun of it.
Tony's friend gives him a few guidelines, including specifying three islands that must be included in his tour. Tony gets a friend to purchase a mini fridge for him and finds a cart to tow it on should he end up walking any great distance.
As he sets out on his adventure, Tony decides not to explain the fridge to anyone unless he is asked. He gets a lot of strange looks. Some people ask, other just ignore him. At first he is quite frustrated when he can't get a ride immediately. Over the course of his journey, Tony meets many intriguing people and goes through many entertaining experiences. One man insists on taking Tony and the fridge surf boarding. On another ocassion, the fridge is christened and later blessed by a nun. A radio station gives Tony a cell phone to use during his journey so that he can call in and have his updates on the air. Ireland with all its humorous personalities had never seen anyone quite like Tony Hawkes and his little "folk hero" friend, the fridge.
