Plot Summary of The Fortune-Hunters
"Jessica and her brother have gone to Bath for the season in search of rich spouses. After many years, the rent on their family home has increased, and money is needed immediately. In Bath, Jessica falls in love with soldier-turned architect Matthew. But Matthew has a secret of his own--after being cut off by his family, he also needs a rich spouse. Matthew and Jessica try to keep their respective secrets, while struggling with conscience because of the "necessary" lying. A subplot involves Jessica's brother wooing a nouveau riche girl."
