| Plot Summary of Kristin Lavransdatter III: The Cross |
"After her husband Erlend narrowly escaped being convicted for treason, Kristin Lavransdatter and her family moved back to her childhood home. The boys grow up, and some of them turn out more like their father than Kristin would have liked. Worried about what Erlend's actions may have done to her sons' future, Kristin and Erlend separate, although they retain the mental connection which originally bound them so many years ago. After Erlend dies, Kristin retires to a convent, and there she must face the most challenging event of her life: the Black Death. Will she have the strength to act out of her Christian faith and minister even to the fallen? Furthermore, will the plague spare her and those she loves?"
