| Plot Summary of Dauntry's Dilemma |
"Quintus Dauntry has a problem. His profligate father has called him to the family estate to get rid of a ghost, and Dauntry has promptly fallen in love with the vicar's sister, a penniless widow. She and her son have had their considerable inheritance denied to them by her former mother-in-law and Dauntry decides to help them get back what is rightfully theirs. Fixing the ghost problem merely requires some ingenuity and money, and getting back the inheritance takes some help from his friends, but the real dilemma is that once she is restored to her wealth he can no longer hope to marry her, being himself a penniless younger son. Enter the ghost, who will not rest happily until Dauntry has married his beloved..."
