Plot Summary of Christmas Colt
"Thirteen year old Chrissie can't wait to raise her own colt – a tradition started by her father when he was thirteen. Her favorite mare is pregnant and Chrissie is sure she will be given the prize horse's colt to raise and sell at auction. When the colt is born, Chrissie is ecstatic. Outstanding is a perfect foal, sure to be a champion and to bring is a huge amount of money at auction. But when the time comes for Chrissie to get her colt, she is shocked and disappointed to discover that her father has decided not to give her Excellence's foal, Instead she is offered the scraggly newborn of the farm's second best mare.

Chrissie names the awkward animal Klutz and agrees to train him. She can't wait until the animal is old enough to sell. But as the year goes on Chrissie's social life deteriorates when her best friend moves away. As Klutz begins to prove himself, Chrissie develops a bond with him, and begins to rely on him as a friend. As Klutz grows into a beautiful yearling, Chrissie struggles with the knowledge that he must be sold at the end of the year, whether she loves him or not."
