| Plot Summary of Appointment With A Stranger |

"Seventeen year old Keller Parrish moves to a small town to live with her grandmother, hoping the fresh country air will improve her debilitating asthma. Isolated Keller (who has always been made fun of because of her illness) is shy and withholding when it comes to making friends, but despite her standoffishness and secretive nature, a few students at her new school try to befriend her – particularly a happy, friendly girl named Rose and the class clown, Drew – who seems a lot more interested in Keller than she is in him.
When Keller nearly drowns in a local pond, she is saved by a mysterious stranger. Tom Hurley is Keller's age, friendly without being intrusive, and very handsome. He and Keller soon develop an intimate friendship and romance. But there's something strange about Tom. None of the other students know who he is, and Keller has never met his family. When Keller is with him, her problems seem to melt away, but when she leaves him behind her day to day fears plague her.
In the end, Keller must come to terms with the possibility that she and Tom can never really be together.
