Plot Summary of Scarlet Feather
"Cathy Scarlet and Tom Feather dreamed of having their own business when they went to cooking school together and 'Scarlet Feather' is the name of the catering business they struggle to get off the ground together. I lost a few nights sleep in wanting to know what would happen with Cathey and Neil, her activist lawyer husband, and would Tom's girlfriend, Marcella make it big as a model. I love the way Maeve rambles on all over the map, she writes like I speak and that's what captivates me, it's as though we're talking to each other. This was my favourite Binchy so far and I'm a big fan!"

"This book plots the year in the life of Cathy Scarlet and Tom Feather. With the beginning of their new catering company reading this book lets you take a peek into their lives together and their friends and family. Reading one of Maeve Binchy's books is like being a fly on the wall. The people in this book are so real you can't help thinking of them while you're not reading the book. "
Darcey, Resident Scholar

"Cathy and Tom Feather met at boarding school and they have dreams of starting a catering business together. But her mother-in-law can't stand her, and her hubby Neil, is much much too busy to even give any support or care. But Cathy gfoes ahead anyhow, with Neil's support, and together they find a place and start the business. And much to the dismay of all, once they start, have much success.

Other delightful characters in this story are Simon and Maude, the twins that have dysfunctional parents. To try and please her mother-in-law, Cathy takes the twins into their home, and Cathy's parents become more or less adopted grandparents to them teaching them things. The poor children never had any manners or upbringing until then.
