Plot Summary of This Time of Darkness
"A girl, Amy, and her friend, Axel, live on Level 9 of the city. Amy is illegally literate and has lived in the city all her life. Axel claims he's from the outside. Together, the two climb the many ramps of the city to see how far up it goes, discovering the city's secrets in a quest for freedom."
