| Plot Summary of The Winds of War |
"Victor Henry (Pug) is placed between a rock and a hard place. His Navy career is on the line. He's forced to make a critical decision, and that's whether to accept a job in Berlin at the U.S. embassy as the Navy Attache. He's urged to take the job, and finally does. His analytical skills are spotted by the one and only: Franklin D. Roosevelt. Pug had correctly predicted the alliance between Hitler's Germany and Stalin's Russia. That one prophetic analysis cleared the way for Pug to become President Roosevelt's behind the scenes observer, who only reported his findings to Roosevelt...nobody else. Like Oliver North, he carried out clandestine missions on direct orders from President Roosevelt, leaving not tracks. But most of all, there were no trails that would lead to the President. The winds of rumor, betrayal, loyalty, tragedy, and love interwoven into a brilliant novel of behind the scenes diplomacy, spying, and analysis all rolled into one, both from Pug's point of view and a German general's view. A classic novel of the highest caliber that will endure for all time."
F. Scott Sinclair, Resident Scholar
