Plot Summary of Exiles Volume I: The Ruins of Ambrai
"Three sisters are divided in the war between the Mages and the Lords of Malerris - two warring, magical factions on their world. The younger two sisters are led on the part of the Mages, the elder following her father in the other. Then in the final battle the sisters are face-to-face in magical combat, and the father makes a decision that will kill one daughter and bring about the love of another."
