Plot Summary of Don't Hurt Laurie!
"To everyone, Laurie looks like an average girl, but all the doctors know there is something strange about her. Laurie is the daughter of Annabelle, an abusive mother, who struggles move after move because doctors become suspicious of her often visits. She begins at a hospital-not being born, but having her butcher cut sewn, posing it as her own clumsiness. Laurie is a poor girl, who wants to stand up for herself, but can't, because she lives in fear. Laurie travels with her mother, whom she addresses as Annabelle, and moves into a joint townhouse. Her neighbor is a boy named George, who is about her age. When she begins to make a friend, her mother is very cautious and this gives Annabelle more reasons to beat her. Laurie goes through so much, yet she always comes out stronger in one sense, and weaker in another. Check out this book to see how it ends."

"    This story iis about a young girl who is abused by her mother. She doesn't have any real brothers or sisters, but a step brother and a step sister. Her mom only abuses her when nobody else is around, and her husband is not there enough to notice any foul play. Laurie's mother does not abuse either of her step children, and doesn't think they know anything about her hurting Laurie. But her step brother knows what is going on and has tried to tell his father. His father simply thinks it is an act of rebellion. The nurses at the doctors offices suspect something but have no evidence to prove it. Laurie's mother is mentally ill but nobody knows this, she hurts Laurie for her own pleasure. Laurie thinks it is because she is blamed for her father leaving and because she looks so much like him.
Laurie never tells anyone what is going on in her home because she believes it is her fault and every time people try to help her she makes up excuses about what happened. Laurie is not allowed to have any friends, her mother is too afraid that someone will find out. One time Laurie was walking up the stairs to her appartment and for no reason her mother pushed her down the stairs, she broke her arm and her mother told every one that she fell down the stairs by accident. She also cut Laurie with a knife and said that she cut herself while slicing tomatoes.
One time when Lauries mother was hitting her her husband walked in and saw the truth, so he called the cops. Laurie was taken to live with her grandma and life turned out much better for her. Later Laurie's mother was put in a mental institution with the crazy people."
