| Plot Summary of Shapechanger's Song - Chronicles of the Cheysuli 1 |
"Alix is a young lady, raised by a cropper who she believes is her father. She is kidnapped along with the heir to the Homana throne by one of the outlawed cheysuli. While held by the cheysuli, a race of shapechangers, Alix learns that she is the daughter of Lindir, who ran away with a cheysuli years ago. That action precipitated a decree by her father, the ruler of Homana, to exterminate the entire race of cheysuli. Alix resists truth, and her attraction to Duncan, the chief of the cheysuli group that captured her. Carillon, the heir is released, but Alix is forced to stay with the cheysuli. She soon learns that she is in fact the daughter of Lindir, and she has gifts of the ancients. She can hear and speak to all the Lir (bond animals to the cheysuli). When Homana is attacked by enemies and Carillon captured, Alix defies Duncan to go to his aid, even though by now she is married to Duncan and carries his child. The ruler of Homana is killed, and Carillon flees to exile with the cheysuli."
