Anne Rice once again exposes her version of the sexual nature in humanity by retelling the story of Sleeping Beauty, probing the unspoken implications of this suggestive tale by exploring its undeniable connection to sexual desire. In this three book series, Princess Beauty is awakened by a young Prince through not a kiss, but sexual initiation. The Prince claims to Beauty's kingdom that his reward is her complete enslavement. Engaging in dangerous trysts with another slave—the Queen's prized possession, Prince Alexi—and winning the hearts of her masters and mistresses of the Castle through her innocent obedience, Beauty begins to wonder silently about why she obeys and why she should not become rebellious. Through her daily trials as a submissive slave, that question burns deeply in to her thoughts: what if she disobeyed? What if she became bad? What if…she earned “the village” as a punishment?

In the second novel, Beauty, having indulged in a forbidden infatuation with Prince Tristan, finds herself plucked from her Prince and shoved into the grueling world that is simply known as “the village.” In return that she is punished most severely for her impudence, she is auctioned off to a brazenly handsome Captain of the Guard. In this new maze Beauty continues her education in love, cruelty, dominance, submission, and tenderness.
In the final volume of Anne Rice's tantalizing erotic trilogy, Beauty's sexual adventures make her the bound captive of an Eastern Sultan and a prisoner in the exotic confines of the harem.

This is a retelling of sleeping beauty. The prince awakens Beauty, thus beginning a very dark, sado-masochistic story that is closer to porn than to erotica. Beauty is taken to his castle and given increasing amounts of humiliation and submission. As the plot continues, Beauty grows accustomed to, and even enjoys, the degradation that she is forced to endure. She deliberately disobeys orders to ensure greater "punishment."

Sleeping Beauty is awakened by the Prince having intercourse with her. She is taken to the castle as a slave for him. There she is spanked and sexually used for the Princes enjoyment and taught to be obiedent towards him at all times. Beauty is introduced to very explicite sexual acts of all kinds and not all to her enjoyment.
