"Dirk Dulaine has returned to his home planet of Melange. His goal is to spark an uprising of the repressed cloned workers against the oppressive settlers. His problem is how to do this. But when he meets up with the Giant Gar and the beautiful Madelon the problem is solved for him. Gar being a telepath and a blank mind after a terrifying ordeal at the insane asylum takes up the staff of the legendary DeCade, a powerful wizard from the past, and beomes DeCade himself.
