| Plot Summary of Break Every Rule |
"This is an African-American/multi-cultural contemporary romance set in Texas. The main female character is 29-year-old Dominique Falcon, her background is Muscogee Indian and African-American. She has tried a few different jobs and is in the process of setting up a photography studio. She uses a different surname because she wants to be a success without using her wealthy family's name. Dominique was married once to an abusive husband and finds it difficult to trust men. Janice, D's godmother, lives next door to Trent, who helps her with handyman jobs and in return she cooks him meals. Dominique and Trent meet through Janice. Trent Jacob Masters is the male lead, orphaned as a baby, now in his mid-30's and running his own trucking business. A very caring and loyal man, he's always helping someone, including mentoring a group of young men and wanting to assist Dominique with increasing her business. Trent has also had a bad experience in love, where his previous love interest betrayed him. Trent's views and background are given as much importance as Dominique's. The lovemaking scenes were romantic and tastefully done, just enough naughtiness and niceness. Trent and Dominique don't rush going to bed, they get to know each other first. There was high sexual tension from the start of the story, revealed through Trent's wicked thoughts. Overall, an enjoyable read. A category romance with a lot packed into it, there is even a romance for Janice. It has some memorable one-liners and funny moments. The characters from this story are interconnected with these other stories: "Forever Yours" (7/94), "Only Hers" (4/96), "Heart of the Falcon" (2/98), "Break Every Rule" (8/98), "Until There Was You" (6/99)."
