Alex Shanahan left her job at Boston-based Majestic Airlines to accept a position in Detroit. However, before leaving town she is horrified to learn that someone murdered a close friend John McTavish at Logan Airport.
When Alex receives a flight logbook and a twenty-five thousand-dollar ring posthumously from John, she visits his family to find out what this means. The police believe John is a victim of a drug related crime that went wrong, but his grieving wife and his crippled brother think differently. They believe John was killed to end his investigation of an illegal black market that scavenges parts from plane crashes. Alex agrees to follow John's trail starting with a trip to Miami, but perhaps she would have reconsidered her offer if she knew how dangerous her pursuit will become.
TARMAC is an exciting aviation mystery that those readers who are not already frightened by the recent horrifying events have another concern to worry about when in the air. The story line is fast-paced and filled with action while Alex remains a fine lead protagonist who risks her career on her quest. The support cast for the most part adds depth though John's brother is overdone as the angry hopeless individual that pushes Alex into picking up the gauntlet. Lynne Heitman keeps her fans flying with this soaring mystery.
