The Wilsons were enthralled by the freshness in air as well as by the scenic beauty of the town, during their first visit to Bartlet. Morover, Bartlet Community Hospital, Bartlet promised them an impressive salary, which gave them a hope to clear their respective debts. Finally, the Wilsons shifted to Bartlet and hoped to start a new life.
Bartlet Community Hospital was a type of hospital David had always dreamed of working in. With the modern and state-of-the-art machines and an own office of his own, David was very happy with his first job. Days turned into months. A day came when David lost his first patient. The next day, David lost another
patient without any reason. What bothered David was that both these patients died of the same symptoms. In the same week, David lost two more patients with the same symptoms. David tried to find out the unusual cause of death. But,the hospital authorities go against him telling him that the various tests to be performed for finding the cause of death would turn out to be very expensive, and that they were saving money to prevent the hospital from being bankrupt. David could not see his patients die just like that, and he paid no heed to the authorities. After a final warning from the authorities, David lost his job.
Still, David was perseverant to find the cause of death. This led his family's and his own life in danger. Finally, David finds out that the hospital is not saving patients, it is saving money. "
