James Mackintosh Quillean used to be a crime reporter for some of the most famous newspapers in the country but now he is comfortably living in Moose County (400 miles of everywhere) in the town of Pickax. He is a columnist for the Moose County Somewhere and is owned by two Siamese cats named Koko and Yum-Yum and though not many people know it he is the richest man in the Northeast Central United States.
When Lori Banba, proprietor of the Nutcracker Inn located in Black Creek call for help, he packs up his felines and checks in the hotel. Koko makes such a racket Jim needs to move into one of the inn's cabins but the one that was supposed to be vacated is designated as a crime scene. When he is allowed in, he finds in the dead man's shoe ( courtesy of Koko) a fortune in gold nuggets hidden in the heel. Quill, being the curious fellow that he is, won't rest easy until he finds out why the stranger to the area was killed and where to find the rest of the gold.
Lilian Jackson Braun has written twenty-three “The Cat Who” novels and one short story collection but the series remains as fresh today as when the first novel was published. THE CAT WHO WENT UP THE CREEK is a “purr”fectly charming cozy story starring humans (and animals) that beguile and charm the reader. There are many life lessons to be learned in this story but they don't take away from the fan of the who-done-it and why was it done tale (or is that tail?).
