Laurie Kenyon is a college student who was kidnapped at the age of four, and then returned two years later. Due to those two years she develops multiple personality disorder (dissociative identity disorder for those wishing to keep up with the ever-changing terminology) in which she is completely unaware of the others. This is best shown when Laurie is accused of murdering a highly respected professor at her college, and she has absolutely no recollection of anything dealing with him. Her sister attorney Sarah takes up her defense in court, and along with psychiatrist Justin Donnelly and PI Brendan Moody, Sarah is determined to find out exactly what happened those two years she was without her little sister and find out if Laurie really did and was even capable of committing murder...so much easier if the couple that kidnapped Laurie would quit their show and just leave them alone...

She has been abondened by her kidnappers two years later and suffers from amnesia during the time she lived with them. Now at twenty-one after her parents have died, she can't stop blaming herself for everything that went wrong in her life. She is doing things she can't remember, but when finally a college professor at her school is killed and Laurie is put on the charge of murder the last straw is drawn. Now Laurie has several personalities living inside of her that she never knew existed, and her sister will do everything to prove that Laurie was innocent or that one of her 'alter' personalities had done it.
It's a thriller from beginning till end, and as you get to know Laurie's alter personalities and sympathize with her you also find a great hatred boiling up inside you for the kidnapper who returned to hurt Laurie with his obsession...
