Plot Summary of The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy
"The Story line is so great because Douglas Adams created a great plot for this science fiction novel. The basic plot of The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy is that Arthur Dent wakes up to find his house is about to be knocked down to build a road. His friend, Ford Prefect, takes him to a pub and they both get drunk. Arthur then explains the world is about to end, and, just before a Vogon constructor fleet destroys the Earth, they hitchhike their way off the planet. During their travels through the galaxy, they encounter adventure, adversity, and a diverse array of beings and objects."
Dennis Kim, Resident Scholar

"Arthur Dent is the last human in the galaxy after Earth is destroyed thanks to the Vogon Constructor Fleet that clears the planet away to make room for an interstellar highway. However, he escapes destruction by sneaking away on a Vogon ship with his good friend, secretly an alien from Betelgeuse, Ford Prefect. They meet up with the President of the Galaxy, who was stolen the fastest ship in the galaxy. However, when they finally make it to a factory-planet that designs luxury planets, they discover the truth about Earth-it was a giant computer meant to figure out the meaning of life, after the second-greatest computer in the universe could only come up with "42". The book is peppered with great humor and exercepts from the Hitchiker's Guide to the Galaxy (an imaginary book with the words DON'T PANIC on the cover) it's one of the best humor/scifi books ever."

"In The Hitchhiker's Guide To The Galaxy, Arthur Dent is spared complete annihilation in the destruction of the earth, an atrocity to humans, but a necessary step in an ongoing galctic public works project. His savior, Ford Prefect, is not from Guildford as he usually claimed during his fifteen year sojourn on earth, but actually from a small moon in the vicinity of Betelgeuse. Why he chose Arthur to save instead of some pretty girl, we never find out. Thus begins a wild romp through the Galaxy which Arthur is at first completely unprepared for (he's still in his dressing gown, for gosh sakes!)"
Ridiano Uvle, Resident Scholar

"This is a story of an average guy Arthur Dent who finds out that his friend is an alien and that Earth is about to be destroyed. So he and his alien friend Ford Prefect hitch a ride from a spaceship that is about to demolish the Earth. After that numerous adventures in space follows."
Lani, Resident Scholar

"One Thursday, around noonish, the Vogons come and destroy the Earth to make way for an inter stellar by-pass. This is what happens afterward to an Earthman named Arthur Dent and his friend, Ford Prefect, a roving researcher for the Hitch Hiker's Guide to the Galaxy."
Anathandra Space Pirate, Resident Scholar

"Narrowly escaping the destruction of the earth to make way for an intergalatic freeway, hitchhikers Arthur Dent (Earthling Idiot) and Ford Prefect (Writer for the Guide) go on a crazy journey across time and space. They are read bad poetry which is considered terrible torture, and they are almost sucked out an air lock into space. After almost being killed many times, and narrowly escaping at the end of each chapter, they join forces with Zaphod Beeblebrox (A two-headed cocky alien), Trillian (another worthless earthling) and Marvin (the depressed robot) to search for the answer to the meaning of life, which may have been hidden on the recently demolished earth."
