George MacDonald (1824-1905) was a preacher, novelist, poet, and teacher. His children's books (eg, The Princess and the Goblin) are still popular, but his other works are less well known. Prof. C. S. Lewis, one of the great scholars of English literature, was much influenced by MacDonald, and referred to him as 'my master'. In this fascinating anthology with bibliography he extracts a daily meditation from the whole range of MacDonald's works, but particularly the Christian works, and encapsulates many deep aspects of the faith in a few pithy words. The preface of about twelve pages will be interest to Lewis enthusiasts as it explains the depth of the influence that Lewis felt from the man and his 'mythological' creative style.
