Plot Summary of Rapture in Death
"Eve caught a case of suicide. One of her husband's employees Drew Matthias has killed himself without any reason. Seeing that it's a cut-and-dried classic suicide, Eve closed the case. Just a day after her return in the police force, she gets a similar case. A lawyer, Mr. Fitzhugh, who is working for a high-profile murderer turned up dead in his bathtub. His live-in partner narrated that everything was normal between the two of them. He woke up one evening when he couldn't find Fitzhugh and went in search for him. That's when he saw his partner in the tub under a pool of blood. Eve is puzzled that this has been two people dead already but without any reason. In the autopsy, it revealed that Fitzhugh has a burn in his cerebral hemisphere, where personality and decision making is located. But Eve is not convinced that the burn has been the caused of the victim's death. When Fitzhugh's medical files have been analyzed, they found out that the victim was healthy and there's nothing to explain how his brain got that pinpoint burn. Eve set that evidence aside and worked more on the background of the victim. When she finds nothing to link anything to his death, Eve goes back to Matthias and she discovers that his brain has the similar pinpoint burn like that of Fitzhugh. When a high profile woman suddenly jumped over her window and to her death, Eve thinks she's getting close to the answers. Inside the woman's room, she bags all sorts of drugs and a visual relaxation machine. Eve thinks that either the machine or the drug has pushed the woman to her death. And she bet it was the machine which is programming the victims' brain into self-termination all the victims have been reported to use the machine before committing suicide. She then got first hand experience of mind control when during a party her husband became rough with her out of no reason. She took the man responsible, Jess Barlow, who made discreet bragging about his talent on mind control. Jess admitted his illegal use of subliminal manipulation on them however he pleaded innocent of the death of the other suicide victims. And Eve can't stick the murders to him. It was only a stroke of luck when she chanced upon seeing Matthias's name on one of Roarke's employees, Reanna's computer and she began to connect the clues together. Reanna and her husband William were responsible for creating virtual relaxation goggles for Roarke's company. Eve suddenly realized that Reanna and her husband had been the people behind controlling the minds of those people who has just committed suicide. But before she could arrest her, Reanna held her up at a gunpoint apparently knew what she's been thinking. Reanna decided to kill her before her plan could be exposed."
