| Plot Summary of Mystic and Rider |
"King Baryon is concerned about the unrest sweeping his land. Some ambitious nobles would like to replace him as king, and there is a growing number of people who hate mystics, people who have magical abilities. So he sends Senate, a mystic, with a small company to see which nobles may be conspiring against him. In her group are Kirk, a mystic from a noble house and her companion, Donna, along with Justin and Toys two of the King's Riders, elite warriors dedicated to the king. Early in their travels Senate rescues Caiman, an orphan mystic, from a cruel master. This upsets the Riders, who distrust mystic. The next day they come across a small cottage where four people were massacred. Upon each body is a moonstone. Mystics find the touch of moonstone painful, so their party concludes that the family was murdered because they were mystics. Sadly, this is not the only time that they will come across murdered mystics. Their next stop is the noble house of Helven. Kirra uses her noble connections and they get in to see Martin Helven. He cautions Kirra against continuing on her journey south. He tells them that the followers of the Pale Mother goddess are gaining power. The Pale Mother's talisman is moonstone, so her followers believe that this means that the Pale Mother hates mystics. Leading the followers of the Pale Mother, is Coralinda Gisseltess, a noblewoman. She has made it fashionable to wear moonstone and persecute mystics. Very concerned, Senneth and her party continue their journey. At their next stop, Kirra and Senneth attend a party to spy out information. One of the gentlemen seems to think Senneth is interested in a tryst. In the middle of the night he breaks into their room. In the following scuffle he touches Kirra with his moonstone ring. When she cries out he realizes she is a mystic and they have to knock him out and flee from the inn. Now news of their party has spread and their danger increases as they move farther south. They must learn to trust one another if they are to survive and report back to the King. "
