Plot Summary of The Rector's Wife
"Anna Bouverie had accepted her position as the wife of a rector in a small village, knowing that if she took up another job she would be met with disapproval. Her life had revolved around the church, and most of her friends work for the church. Her whole attitude to her life changes when her husband Peter is not promoted and her youngest daughter suffers bullying at her school.
In order to pay for school fees, Anna starts working at the local supermarket and earns her own income, and is met with hostility and disapproval from her husband and friends. Then a wealthy neighbour moves next door, falls for Anna and tries to persuade her to leave her family with him. Feeling lost and confused, Anna confides in the new Archdeacon, who is surprisingly sympathetic and introduces her to his brother Jonathan. After some time they start an affair.
In a rage, Peter forces Anna to resign from her job, and they begin to slip away from each other's lives."
