Plot Summary of Desire
"After the death of her father Humphrey, Lady Clare is desperate to protect her family's legacy, the Isle of Desire. The Isle of Desire produces perfume which they export for profit. Since the death of her father brigands have seized Lady Clare's perfume shipments and interfered with her thriving business. After being kidnapped by her neighbor Nicholas of Seaborn in the hopes that she would be compromised and forced to marry him, Lady Clare acquiesces to marry a man of the king's choosing. Marriage would provide Lady Clare and her island with protection. Lady Clare knows that she has to marry and she makes a list of characteristics that her husband must possess. When Sir Gareth of Wyckemere shows up, Lady Clare is shocked at the sight of her prospective husband. Sir Gareth, the bastard son of Thurston of Landry, is one of the fiercest knights in all of England. More than anything, Gareth wants to possess his own land, a place to call his own. Treated as a castoff son his entire life and ineligible to inherit his father's estate, Gareth seizes the opportunity to marry a wealthy woman in need of protection. By marrying Lady Clare he will achieve his goals. As Lady Clare and Gareth settle into married life, Gareth attempts to settle down his wife while Lady Clare sets about to change Gareth into the man she wishes him to be. As the two begin to fall in love neither of them is aware of a dangerous enemy waiting to rise up against them."
