| Plot Summary of The Penny Whistle |
"Maggie is a young girl with fiery red hair, and is a child full of love and compassion. When her teacher's flute gets stolen she takes up a collection to buy him a new one, but the teacher announces their are people in their community in desperate need of money and asks them to take a collection. After talking with her best friend Summer who is dying of a lung sickness and praying she decides that her teacher would want them to donate the money to the families in need. When she goes later to tell Summer the idea of throwing a party for their teacher they plan together to have a penny whistle made for him. Summer dies before the gift can be completed and Maggie's hearts broken but their teacher helps her through this, and in turn she helps him once again find the gift of music.
