| Plot Summary of The Dragon's Dagger |
"The Dragon's Dagger is a sequel to The Woods Out Back. During the course of the story, Gary Leger is whisked away to the land of Faerie for the second time. He first encountered the magical land in The Woods Out Back, which is replete with elves, dwarves, gnomes, a witch, a dragon, and a cunning leprechaun. It's up to Gary to lead his cohorts (Kelsey the elf, Geno the dwarf, and Mickey McMickey the leprechaun) against Robert, the shape-changing dragon who has been terrorizing the countryside now that his main opponent, Ceridwen the evil witch, has been banished (by Gary in The Woods Out Back).
The reason Gary is chosen for this mission is that he is the right size to wear the magical armor of Cedric Donigarten, a human who previously guarded the land of Faerie, as it is known. During the course of the story, Gary and his friends get into a lot of fights with the minions of evil, and encounter a gnome who can travel faster than a speeding arrow. Salvatore incorporates a lot of humor into this novel, including allusions to Monty Python, and the works of Tolkien. Although most of the character development took place in the earlier novel The Woods Out Back, most fantasy fans will appreciate this book for its quick action sequences and original humor. "
