"LETTERS OF TWO BRIDES (Mémoires de Deux Jeunes Mariées) is a novel first published in 1841.
Two young noble women leave the convent where they were destined to become religious figures. For a 17 years period, they will exchange letters describing their life. Renée, coming from a noble but poor family, has decided to marry Louis, a bourgeois of the country. She will dedicate her life to motivate her husband, to help him hold a position in the society and to bring up their three children. She has given up her dreams of passion but will find happiness in this life that is in accordance with the laws of the society.
On the contrary, Louise de Chaulieu, brought to Paris by her wealthy family, has decided to lead an independent life and wait for the man of her dreams. She will find him in the spanish Baron of Macumer who'll worship her and marry her. But, the Baron, exhausted by this life dedicated to a woman who is unable to accept the slightest sagging of his love will soon die. A few years later, Louise will fall again in love, this time with the poor writer Gaston Marie. Fearing that their love would fade in the fast life of Paris, she will hide their love in the country and leave the brilliant world she had live in until then."
