| Plot Summary of The Stalking Horse |
" The novels begins at a tense moment in the smoky office of Detective Allan Pinkerton, the irascible head of Pinkerton's detective agency. Pinkerton grudgingly agrees to send Bronwyn to confederate territory in Montgomery Alabama for a simple assignment. However, this assignment turns out to be more than either bargained for as Bronwyn's fellow Pinkerton operatives are murdered in front of her and she along must unravel a plot by Southern successionists to assassinate the newly elected Abraham Lincoln.
