"Winter is the daughter of a prominent drug-lord in Brooklyn. She has every material thing (clothes, jewelry, cars) she could ever want. When her father is busted, she must try to keep her life going on her own without his money to support her. She ends up in a half-way type home run by Sister Souljah and there tries to use her street-smarts and inner strength to get what she wants. "

"Winter Santiaga is a spoiled, materialistic, troubled teenager. Throughout the novel, she is constantly trying to "stay on top". She grows up in the ghetto with a father who is a drug kingpin. Her father spoils her rotten and her mother feeds into this. They finally move out of the ghetto and into a rich, suburban area. Winter feels isolated and needs to go back to the ghetto and brag to her friends and complete strangers. Winter also sees no problem with spending a few hundred dollars on an outfit and other luxuries. This mentality brings her to the destructive point in her life. She uses her good looks and her game to manipulate everyone (including her immediate family) into getting what she wants. The book mainly discusses her problems with spending money on ridiculous items and how she never realizes the problem with it. Winter never sees her downfall until the very end. And in the end it also shows how history repeats itself or how life is a cycle when Winter's sister has fallen into the same trap."

Because of her selfish ways and her conditioned mentality to always be better than the next person, these positive people pass through her life without her learning much from them. "Winter Santiaga is a spoiled urban teenager. For so long she's lived the life of glamour and riches due to her father's drug kingpin status. But when her world is shattered when her father is arrested by the Feds, Winter still tries to keep up with the times. Along her way she meets a variety of characters some out to help her and others out to harm her. When ultimately she thinks she's found love and the guy showers her with materalistic items to show her he loves her. But actually he only cares about himself by letting her take the rap for his drugs and guns."

Used to depending on her father, Winter must now get by on looks, and street smarts to survive, and still maintain the luxurious life she once lived. Determined to show others that she is still on top of her game she begins to date drug dealers, have sex, steal, and play anyone she can, until finally her actions catch up with her; and her down-fall is one she could not have even prdicted. " The Coldest Winter Ever is a book about the daughter of a big black drug dealer growing up in a very sheltered life. At the age of seventeen her and her family loses all their wealth and the family is split up.
The four children become orphans in different places and the mother hits rock bottom using the drug her husband once sold.
Winter, the main character, was left to fend for herself on the streets basically and get caught up in drug dealing and illegal weapons that land her in prison for fifteen years. "
