Plot Summary of His Bright Light
"Danielle Steele shares her most intimate moments with the son she lost to manic-depression. She reveals the demons Nick Traina fought through childhood, as a teen, and during his aspiring career as a musician. She gives us a complete overview of the battle she fought to save a family member struggling with an unfamiliar mental illness. "
Terrena Mann, Resident Scholar

"Nick Traina is the son of famous author Danielle Steel. From his birth, he and his mother had a very special relationship. Nick was a gifted child who never ceased to amaze his family. But, as he grew older, he began to show signs of suffering from mental illness. At first, his odd behavior did not alarm his family. He was just thought to be a difficult child. Eventually, each day became a struggle for mental stability.

Danielle Steel faced the constant challenge of balancing her writing career, her large family, and her son's illness. It was a labor of love though. Through the support of her family, she was able to be there for Nick through many of his crisis. At times it tore her apart to always have to give her time and energy to Nick while sometimes having nothing left for the other children. It was also emotionally draining on her.

This is the journey of a mother and son through the challenges faced by those suffering from manic depression."

Tracy Alexander, Resident Scholar
