Helena Trant is an errant schoolgirl who finds herself lost in the misty woods while on a school picnic. She is "rescued" in the mist by a man on a horse - her "Sigfried". After an amazing night spent with him in his cabin - her virtue still intact only by the grace of the concerned housekeeper and a heavily bolted door - she finds herself in love with a ghost, pining for the man of her dreams. When he at last reappears, it seems to good to be true, and in many ways, is.
