Downhill hiking in Switzerland

Downhill hiking in Switzerland

Hiking is nice, but downhill (or flat) definitely is more fun than grueling uphill. Unfortunately, in most situations one has to climb up in order to go down. But not in Switzerland (and a few other select places in the alps). By means of cablecar, funicular, and occasionally bus, one can get transported up and go down on foot. I have travelled throughout Switzerland and parts of Italy, Austria, and Germany and now provide for you a list of places with good flat or downhill hiking. The hikes are rated by the quality of scenary, how steep the downhill is (gentle inclines are preferred), and how close to the edge of cliffs the trails are (too close is not good). Naturally because this is a high quality website I provide maps as well.

The best time to travel in Switzerland is in July and August. Before that time the cablecars may not be open, and even if they are the trails can still be covered in snow (even in June, even in parts of July. Really.) Also, you should bring your own food, because the food in Switzerland is terrible (really). Also, you should use public transportation, because most of the roads in Switzerland, even most of the highways, are narrow, one land in each direction winding roads.
