thank goodness I found this website - I began reading the Butch/Marlene series this year - very intellectual couple - conversations are fabulous or should I say were - now it's drivel - when you don't realize what's going on, you think these characters have had frontal lobotomies - I read Hoax,Fury and now Counterplay - it's all wrong - what a huge disappointment - loved these characters and now they're gone - shall we have a wake for them or sit shiva?

I am 79 years old with lots of time to read and happened to pick up one of your paperbacks and immediately started emptying out the hard-cover shelves. I read about 6 books in the past 10 days - am trying to get them in order. You may have had his pointed out to you before but just in case - JUSTICE DENIED - page 199 "digging out old tea caddies and carving them with Hegbrew to make ethrog, etc" An ethrog is a citron used on the Succot holiday. It is what is placed in the little box (just to protect it when not in use) - matzah is never put in little boxes except the ones they are sold in.

Whatever Mr. Tanenbaum has to say about the New York Times, good or bad, is his choice. I prefer to think of that paper as not the Old Gray Lady, but the Old Gray Witch. I love the way he writes. I just want to know, is Malovo really dead?

There are so many loose threads at the end of Capture (more than usual) that I would like to know when you plan to have the next book in the "series" on the market. I am eagerly awaiting number 22.

For Mr. T. From your first books I have read & recommended the Karp stories. They are a great read! But for almost 60 years I also have read the NY Times. I simply do not enjoy your using your book as a bully pulpit to bash the Times. Once, OK, but please, not as frequently as in the recent Capture. JCHull

I got hold of the Michael Gruber books and read them all. He is brilliant, funny, super literate, and interested in deep and provocative subjects without being in the least pretentious. So happy I discovered the HOAX and now have this great 'new' writer to enjoy.

I agree that since Tanenbaum lost Gruber as a ghost writer the quality of the stories has deteriorated signficantly. Poor dialog, poor plots. Tannenbaum owns the Karp brand his current outsourcer is ruining it

Ooooops! In Hoax, character named Rachel explains her name is same as biblical Abraham's wife. Abraham's wife was Sarah. Jacob was married to sisters Leah and Rachel.

Auntie's post from 2006 was right on! I read a few of Tanenbaum's books, and then went out of sequence with Hoax. The hoax is that it passes for a Butch Karp/Marlene Ciampi thriller.
