I just finished the monumental task of reading the entire Dark Tower series. I had tried several times before, and The Gunslinger always derailed me. This time I went with the suggestion of my son-in-law and just skimmed the first volume and read the last chapter. From then on, it was smooth sailing. More or less. I really enjoyed Wizard and Glass and The Wolves of the Calla. Overall, I thought the whole was less than the sum of some of the parts. I was particularly uncomfortable with the degree to which SK put himself into the narrative. While I can understand the implications of a near-death experience (I personally have had a close call on a cardiac event) I found that the frequent calls upon the authors presence served to pull me out of the narrative.
At any rate, I just finished the series this morning and made a Facebook post to that effect. I tried to post on www dot stephenking dot com in the forums, but it seems that everything is locked out. This afternoon, after a full day of running errands, I decided that relaxing with a nice cocktail would be in order. I mixed the drink as usual and imagine my shock when, as I put the bottle back upon the shelf I noticed the words, "A Quality Beam Whiskey". Spooky!

Dear Mr. King. I have written a book called The Bleeding Ground and it has been published by Publish America.I know that you get a lot of mail from people and i realy don't wish to be a bother, but i have put a lot of time and effort into this book and it may not mean much to anyone but me. Nerver the less I was wondering if I sent you a copy if you might at least think about reading it. Mitchell L.Pate P.S. thank you so much for your time.

I love King's books. They are great. I also love his movies. I just recently saw his movie The Mist that just came out in the movies and it was an excelent movie.
