Good evening. Just saw "In the Electric Mist with Confederate Dad on my new Infinty hook up. Though Tommy Lee Jones will always be Woodrow F Call to me, He did a great job. Been down Idaho for a memorial of an old friend. We were in U on I in the early 50's together, in the same unit in Alaska in 55 and have seen each other two or three times a year for over 30 years. He spent 40 years trying to get sober and finally found AA. He was sober for 23 years before he died of COPD. It is hard seeing your old friends passing from school, the 101st, 5th SFG. They are so young in my memory.

When I discovered JLB, I was ecstatic. I live in Alexandria, La. and this really is so about La. I have read all but 4 of his books. I hound the book stores daily! I think I have a soft spot for Cleve Purcell, he did love his "Big Mon" and ended up in trouble himself. James L. Burke is my favorite author!

Beth: I don't remember in what book Bootsie dies, but die she does. Any way, when I first started reading JLB I read him in any order I could get the books and I didn't miss anything to speak of. Of course, reading them in order probably makes more sense to some, but you'll get a lot of enjoyment just reading Burke. Enjoy.

What is the name of the book where Bootsie dies?

I have just read Shadow Men by Jonathon King, an author praised by James Lee Burke as someone able to stunningly evoke a region, in this case the Everglades. He has touches of JLB.One of his characters even wears a Dave Robicheaux Dock and Bait Shop cap!A good novelist who maintains your interest to the end but really lacking the gripping complexity of JLB.When can we expect a new Burke novel. I have read all his work to date.

Michael Connolly might, indeed, be brillaint. I prefer to think of James Lee Burke as brilliant.
