I just finished your wonderful book and I was so thrilled to read all the references to South Pasadena. I was born January 26, 1931, which is nine days after Anna was born. I graduated from South Pasadena High in 1949, the same as Anna. References to the Rialto and Fosselman's brought back many wonderful memories. Thank you for the great book!

Bo. I have been living in New Zealand since January 2007. I booked a trip to California where I will meet my sister in April(4weeks time). She lives in London and we will be spending time in San Francisco and Morgan Hill with our Aunt and cousins etc. Then 4 weeks back in England to spend time with my elderly parents and other friends and family. Then a couple of days stopover with a brother who lives in Shanghai. (I blame my irish roots for the long time it takes me to get to the point.....). Told another brother that I want to see 'old Shanghai'. A few days later your book arrived in the post. I will never be able to put into words how it has affected me. I wanted to keep turning the pages though at the same time, I didn't want to get to the end. So I finished it today and have loaned it to a friend who is going to China in a couple of weeks. It will stay with me forever. I read 'Gone With The Wind' 40years ago at the age of 13. I've not read another book since that moved me so much. Until now. Thankyou so much Bo. Colette

This book made me cry and I found it hard to believe it wasn't a true story. So beautifully written and such wonderful descriptions. I was in Shanghai in 1987 and remember the lions on the Bund! I lived in Los Angeles area for 40 yrs (now retired to MT) and knew many of the places in Pasadena mentioned. I have told many friends they will thank me for recommending it to them. A beautiful beautiful read.

Bo - I am on the board of the Friends of the South Pasadena Library. After reading your book in which South Pasadena plays a distinct role I was hoping that you would be willing to discuss coming & speaking at our annual meeting the 24th of January, 2006. We have a very active Chinese American Club in our community & are planning to partner with them to provide a Chinese New Year celebration along with featuring an author. You were the first author that came to mind when we were brainstorming! Please contact me.
Thank you.
