Bertie Wooster wakes up one morning in his London flat to discover he is suffering from an unsightly rash with spots all over his chest. Going to see his doctor, he bumps into Vanessa Cook, who had turned down a proposal of marriage from him the year before, and her new boyfriend Orlo Porter, a former friend of his from Oxford and left-wing zealot.
